How much does it cost to paint a car?
It depends on how much of the car is painted. A single panel such as a hood, a door or a fender falls in the $300-500 range. A full repaint, where the whole exterior is prepped and painted, typically runs $5,000-8,000. Most paint jobs we quote sit in between: the damaged panel plus blending into the neighboring panels so the color matches in daylight. See how this works on our auto paint and refinishing page.
What moves the price up or down
- Repair or replace. A dent that can be repaired costs less than a new part. Cracked bumper covers, broken mounts and torn metal usually mean replacement.
- Parts. Original (OEM) parts and aftermarket parts are priced differently, and premium makes cost more to source.
- Paint blending. To make a repaired panel match, paint is often blended into the panels next to it, which adds labor and material.
- Sensors and ADAS. Parking sensors, blind-spot radar and cameras behind bumpers and mirrors may need to be removed, replaced or recalibrated after the repair.
- Frame and structure. A hit hard enough to bend the frame or a support behind the bumper turns a cosmetic job into frame straightening, measured and corrected before the outer panels go back on.
- Paintless options. Some dents can be removed without repainting at all. See paintless dent repair.
Insurance or out of pocket?
With a claim, you usually pay your deductible and the insurer pays the rest of the approved repair. If the other driver caused the crash, the claim goes against their liability coverage instead. Paying out of pocket can make sense when the estimate comes in close to your deductible, for example a single painted panel in the $300-500 range against a $500 or $1,000 deductible.
We work directly with all insurance companies, most often Farm Bureau, Progressive, State Farm, National General and Allstate, and we talk to the adjuster for you. Towing is free for vehicles we repair. After an accident, start with our collision repair page.
Why get a free estimate first
A price over the phone can only be a range. Hidden damage behind a bumper cover, the exact paint code and whether a part can be repaired all show up when someone looks at the car. Drive in to 109 Sherin Ln, Indian Trail during business hours and the written estimate takes about 10 minutes. You leave with an itemized document you can compare with other shops or hand to your adjuster. If you want a preliminary number first, send photos through the form below or call (704) 618-8755.
